Support the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant
The Rotary Club of Mt. Pleasant was formed in 1977, has approximately 75 members, and meets for lunch on Wednesdays. We have a rich history of “Service Above Self.”
Backpack Buddies is our signature Project. Throughout the school year, in partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank, each week our club packs and provides weekend food for 125 disadvantaged children in the East Cooper area. Happy Feet is our program to provide free shoes and socks for children in need. We love helping the children find their new pairs of shoes and seeing the happiness on their faces. This year we gave out more than 230 pairs.
We support literacy in numerous ways. Our Dictionary Project provides a dictionary for every 3rd grader in the East Cooper area. We give out more than 1,200 dictionaries each year. We host Master Reading teachers for lunch and recognize their hard work promoting literacy, sponsor an essay contest with prizes for area 4th and 5th graders, and sponsor and attend a book fair for a local Title I school.
In recent years we have given grants to many local charities to support their efforts. These include East Cooper Meals on Wheels, East Cooper Community Outreach, LAPS, Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, One 80 Place, Crisis Ministry, ITN Charleston, Boy Scouts of Coastal Carolina, Maia Moms, Charleston Pro Bono, Wando Dream Weavers, and Wando Beckham Scholars.
